We are very proud of this ground-up initiative from our staff and management” said Mr. Rahul Colaco, CEO of GRGI.
U Aung Moe Kyaw, Co-chairman of GRGI said “I would like to thank the Chief Minister of Yangon, H.E. U Phyo Min Thein and Head of Yangon Regional Health Department, Dr. U Tun Myint for gracing this occasion and opportunity to participate in this initiative announce the donation in the battle against COVID-19. This initiative helps us continue our business operations with new normal measures as a local manufacturing industry leader. This pandemic has caused untold misery and hardship around in Myanmar with nearly 3,000 deaths and 135,000 infected. Comparing to the World with over 2 million deaths and over 90 million people infected, we could say that Myanmar Public Health sector has done a great job. However, the economic chaos is even more profound and has affected millions in Myanmar. We at GRGI feel for our people and hope that this donation will help in the fight against this virus.”
“GRGI has always put our commitment towards the community as a priority and our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts have been increased during this period. The economic and social fabric that we have built up over the years has been tremendous and we have no intention of just maintaining the status quo, in fact we intend to increase our partnerships and contributions whenever we can,” said Mr. Colaco.
GRGI is proud of its achievements throughout the year and being part of the community in Myanmar. The organization has continuously donated towards the people of Myanmar hoping that its efforts in outreaching the affected communities will be an example for other members in our Industry to follow. The organisation believes that it is inter-linked with its partners, the customers and the community in business and life and without them it would not be here. The economic and community eco-system is not an isolated one and whatever the company does has an impact on the various segments of the society.
Therefore, GRGI’s social compact with the communities and customers and all the stake holders is this mantra of “Being a Good Corporate Citizen”.
Early January this year, the company donated over 600 COVIFOR Remdesivir injections to help treat over 100 critically infected patients with the guidance of National Level Central Committee for Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19 and the Ministry of Health and Sport. In addition to this, and following the same committee’s guidance, we donated over 200,000 bottles of hand sanitisers worth over 500 million MMK to hospitals, quarantine Centres, Monasteries, Nunneries and local NGOs in support of the pandemic relief efforts.
It is not so much the monetary contributions towards the community but rather the commitment towards helping the fellow countrymen in times of crises. GRGI and all of its staff are proud to be part of the Myanmar community with the belief of helping and each other all the time, especially in times of need like now.
Not only did the company focus in the community efforts here in Myanmar but its majority shareholder, Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, donated over 20,000 pieces of surgical masks , 100 litres of 72% alcohol and 20 bottles of alcohol gel to His Excellency U Myo Myint Than, the Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand at the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Bangkok. This is the commitment towards the people of Myanmar, GRGI will always be the partner of people in difficult times.
